The Children’s Festival and Gold Country Kiwanis: A Match Made in Heaven

In 2018, The Children’s Festival requested a donation from Gold Country Kiwanis to purchase a giant chess set, which has proved to be a popular activity. Kiwanis didn’t stop at granting that wish. The following year, Kiwanis began providing critical behind-the-scenes support, such as insurance and tax reporting, and Kiwanis members have stepped up to volunteer for every type of task at the Festival.

Kiwanis is an international organization of volunteers committed to improving the lives of children in their communities and around the world. Gold Country Kiwanis and its charitable foundation have been operating in Nevada County since 1990. Kiwanis provides school clothes to local children in need, awards scholarships to Nevada County students, and provides financial support to many local nonprofit organizations.

In addition to the Children’s Festival, Kiwanis sponsors other local events, including World Tai Chi/Qigong Day at the Training Zone on April 26 and the Health & Safety Carnival at the Rood Center on June 7. For more information, see their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/goldcountrykiwanis/

About The Children’s Festival

Founded by Pat Cobler and Ilsa Barnhart in 1971, The Children’s Festival Committee has been bringing this magical event to the children of Nevada County for more than 50 years. Our committee now has 12 members, and our mission remains the same: to put on a Renaissance Faire for children, filled with arts and crafts, entertainment, and fun activities at a family-friendly price.
